Ilha Grande is an island off the coast of Brazil that is home to a unique eco-system of pristine beaches and lush forest covered hillsides. For those looking to discover paradise a little more off the beaten track Ilha Grande is the perfect choice for you.
You can spend your days discovering the island on foot (as there are no cars on the island!) taking in the numerous beaches, bays and perfect waters for snorkelling.
From Rio de Janeiro it's a 3 hour car journey and a short boat to reach the island, but in our view your extra efforts will be well rewarded. Accommodation on the island tends to be more simple than other beach areas of Brazil but this fits in with the islands eco credentials very well. Best Time To Go
Ilha Grande is is open all year round and great to visit anytime. However for the best beach weather we would particularly recommend visiting from September through to April, when the weather tends to be drier.
