The Chilean Wine Region is the perfect place to sample Chile's best wines, discover boutique hotels and outdoor adventure, or simply relax in beautiful surroundings.
The Central Valley is nestled between two mountain ranges (the Andes and the Coastal Mountain Range) and crossed by the rivers that make their soil so fertile. These expanses of land are used to grow wine grapes and Chilean wine producers began to use modern technology in order to take full advantage of the hilly topography, sea and mountain winds, and notable temperature variations that have made the country one of the New World's leading wine exporters. The finest wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grow beautifully in this region.
The Area
The Aconcagua, Casablanca, Colchagua, San Antonio-Leyda, Maipo, Cachapoal, Curicó and Maule Valleys are key destinations in this area and are located between 1-3 hours drive from Santiago. In addition to sampling some of Chile's best wines, you can discover boutique hotels and wineries, horseback riding routes, bicycle paths, museums and other points of interest that make traveling through these valleys quite an experience. Most visitors will hire a car to explore however you can stay in a winery or hotel for a few days.
Best Time To Go
You can visit the Chilean Wine Region all year round. In summer (Nov - Feb) temperatures can reach 28°C. Temperatures are much cooler in winter but there is nothing better than relaxing by the fire with a delicious red wine!
