When Do You Want To Go?
Just outside Ecuador's capital city lies a steamy subtropical rainforest known as a cloud forest, filled to the brim with endemic wildlife and fascinating plant life like nowhere else on Earth. Visitors can spend their days hiking the forest floor in search of bromeliads and orchids, or high above in the jungle canopy spotting hummingbirds and tanagers, toucans and antpittas.
Most people choose to stay in a jungle lodge, nestled within its own protected area, and each with its own character. Due to the remote nature of the lodges, most programmes include all food and drink, as well as guided tours to explore the surrounds as part of the price of the stay. A few days here is the perfect indulgence for wildlife enthusiasts and those looking to re-connect with nature, and a real escape from reality
Despite feeling away-from-it-all, the cloud forest is only around an hour and a half from Quito, and easily reached by car. Speak to your Travel Specialist who can organise private or shared transfers from the city to the area.
The dry season starts from around mid-June and runs until October, and is generally considered a good time to travel. However, rain is always to be expected in a tropical rainforest, especially during the afternoons when you can expect short, sharp showers. There is rainfall most days between February and April.
