Days 1-3 UK - Buenos Aires
On Day 1, you'll depart on your international flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, you'll spend two nights in the home of the tango, at a centrally located hotel.
On your second day, enjoy a fascinating half-day city tour and learn about the interesting history of Argentina which has shaped what the country has become today, followed by an evening of entertainment with a tango show and dinner.
Days 4-5 Colonia del Sacramento
Today you will journey across the Rio de la Plata estuary to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. In the afternoon you will have a guided walking tour through the old district where you will learn why Colonia de Sacramento was recognised as a World Heritage Site in 1995. The Old District was founded in 1680 by the Portuguese and is a beautiful and peaceful area. It is still very well preserved today, allowing visitors to witness the fusion of Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial architectural styles.
Your tour will take in the 'Street of Sighs' (or Calle de los Suspiros) which is a narrow pedestrianised road paved with wedge stones that date back to 1720. You will stop at the Main Square, followed by the ruins of the San Francisco Church which is the oldest ruin in Uruguay dating back to the 17th century. You will then visit the Lighthouse, the Governor’s House and finally the Sacramento Basilica.
Days 6-7 Montevideo
Today you will take a bus journey to the city of Montevideo. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. On your second day, you have a guided tour of Uruguay’s capital. Life in Montevideo revolves around the Plaza de la Independencia and is known for its rich culture as well as vibrant and eclectic atmosphere.
You can expect to see Montevideo's monuments, gardens and parks, impressive landmark buildings (such as the Parliament Building), the pretty residential district of Carrasco with its early 20th-century architecture and scenic coastal roads.
Day 8 Punta del Este
Also known as the ‘St. Tropez of South America’, Punta del Este is famous for being a favourite holiday destination for regional and international jet setters. Today you will head out on a private guided tour of the city. You’ll see the fantastic beach areas of Playa Mansa and Playa Brava, beautiful mansions in the residential districts, as well as Punta Ballena which is a must-see for its panoramic views of the city and coast. You will also stop at Casapueblo, a Moroccan-style atelier once home to the renowned Uruguayan artist, Carlos Páez Vilaró, before heading back to Montevideo for the night.
Days 9-10 Montevideo - UK
A private transfer will take you to the Montevideo Airport where you will catch your flight back home, alternatively, return to Colonia for the ferry to Buenos Aires. On Day 10, you will land back in the UK from Uruguay
