Quick Itinerary
Mexico Culture & Nature 15-day Itinerary
Days 1-3 UK - Mexico City
Fly to Mexico City, where you’ll be met by our representative and transfer to your hotel, located in the heart of the historic centre of the largest metropolis in the world. Welcome to the vibrant, beating heart of Mexico, where ancient canals and ruins, inspired gastronomy, world-class museums, fascinating history, characterful neighbourhoods and so much more, await you.
A private tour of the city is one of the best ways to discover the highlights, including the Zocalo or central plaza – one of the largest public squares in the world, the huge Metropolitan Cathedral and the Templo Mayor. Afterwards, you’ll head to the impressive historic site of Teotihuacan ancient city to explore the temples, palaces and pyramids held sacred by the Aztecs.
The following day your private guide will help you uncover Coyoacán, a former colonial village in the south of the city. Explore the colourful streets, plazas and cafes of this lively bohemian area. Visit Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo's home, now a museum and treasure trove of personal artefacts, letters, dresses and more. Your tour finishes with a visit to Casa Estudio Diego Rivera, where Kahlo and her husband the famous muralist, Diego Rivera, once lived and worked.
Days 4-6 Oaxaca
After a short flight to Oaxaca, you’ll arrive at your hotel, located in the historic centre of Oaxaca.
The following day, head out to Monte Albán, a UNESCO World Heritage site, spectacularly situated 400m above the Oaxaca Valley. The mountaintop site is an incredible feat of engineering and an impressive sight.
On your last day in Oaxaca, visit San Bartolo Coyotepec, 12km south of the city, where Oaxaca’s gleaming black pottery is made. Then in Santo Tomas Jalietza, visit the artisans creating beautiful weavings and embroidery work before stopping at Ocotlan, a village renowned for its artists.
Days 7-9 Mérida
Fly from Oaxaca to Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatan, where colonial charm and a laid-back atmosphere make it a favourite among visitors. A great base from which to explore the many delights of the Yucatan, from cenotes to flamingo sanctuaries and impressive Mayan archaeological sites. Enjoy a half day city tour of Mérida with the rest of the day free to explore.
The following day brings a tour to Celestun Biosphere Reserve and the pink flamingo sanctuary, including a boat ride through the estuaries and a stop at the freshwater springs to swim in the crystal-clear waters.
Days 10-13 Isla Holbox
Depart Mérida and head east towards Isla Holbox, with a stop at the famous Mayan archaeological site Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. After exploring the magnificent ruins, continue the journey to Isla Holbox for your final four nights. The island is just 25km long and 3km wide, with seemingly endless beaches and tranquil waters. You may wish to swim with whale sharks (May to September), explore by kayak or experience the magical bioluminescence on a tour from the hotel’s beach. (Tours in Holbox not included)
Days 14-15 Cancun - UK
Today you’ll transfer from Isla Holbox to Cancun International airport for your onward flight. You will land back in the UK on day 15.
