Also taking place in February/March is the world’s second-largest carnival – Colombia’s four-day Barranquilla Carnival, including centuries-long traditions and strong African links, the fun includes dances originating from the Congo!
One of the most important festivals in Latin America’s calendar, Inti Raymi is a traditional religious ceremony held in honour of worshipping the sun. It takes place over 9-days across the Andes region, with the majority happening in Cuzco, Peru.
The world’s largest tango festival takes place in August in Buenos Aires and attracts the world’s best dancers for an extravagant celebration. There’s also a dance competition, dubbed the World Cup of tango!
Easter Island’s iconic festival is a vibrant celebration of the island’s Polynesian culture. Taking place in February it involves dance, music and ancestral sports contests.
