I was definitely born with the travel bug and since a young age, I've relished visiting incredible places, exploring different cultures and meeting new people. This passion for travel led me to study languages at university, which included the opportunity to study or work abroad so naturally, this appealed. My sabbatical year in 2007 took me to Argentina to work on a volunteer programme in an orphanage, an experience I will never forget and one that allowed me to immerse myself in Latin culture and life.
Upon graduation, I decided to continue with my passion for travel and I worked for a large tour operator in London as well as completing a business qualification on the side. Starting a business had always been my goal, and having spotted that there was a gap in the market for a Latin America specialist tour operator, Martin (Johnson) and I launched Latin Routes in 2012.
Whilst living and working in Argentina, I was also fortunate enough to be able to travel around this incredibly diverse country in my free time. From a weekend ski trip in Bariloche to a road trip in the Northwest with friends, I saw just how beautiful this country (and some of its neighbouring countries) are, and I fell in love with the continent, its culture and its people.
Through my job, I feel so privileged to have travelled the continent of Latin America in-depth and have now been to Latin America over 25 times. There is something truly unique about this continent and I love sharing my knowledge and passion with others, to inspire them to go!
For me Patagonia is my standout favourite place- this vast region in Southern Chile and Argentina has so much to offer and is truly breathtaking. The Andes mountains, the remote landscapes, incredible scenery, the huge glaciers, bright blue lakes, and particularly the hiking and adventure opportunities. My favourite experience is to hire a car and drive the big open roads, stopping at small family-run guest houses that overlook crystal clear lakes, or quirky B&Bs that sit in beautiful National Parks. The feeling you get when you travel in Patagonia is one of peace and tranquillity, and you feel so close to nature. It should be on everyone’s bucket list!
Don’t try to do too much in one trip and don’t underestimate the distances and size of the continent! It is huge! You want to enjoy your holiday, not be travelling the entire trip, so my advice is to speak with us and concentrate on the destinations that interest you or that we recommend. Spend 3-4 days in a place to be able to experience what it has to offer, meet local people, try local restaurants and have some free time to explore.
